Last Tuesday, renowned poker-focused media powerhouse Poker Central announced that it has acquired the High Stakes Poker brand and all of its assets. It is great news for Poker Central’s customers who will now be able to enjoy watching High Stakes Poker games once they go live on PokerGO, Poker Central’s popular subscription-based streaming service.

This is set to begin in the course of 2020 with players being treated to a ton of action-packed streams. Beyond that, Poker Central is also reportedly looking into extending the reach of the High Stakes Poker distribution to other areas including other streaming services as well as broadcast services.

A Treat for Nostalgic Viewers

Speaking during the announcement of the acquisition, Poker Central president Sampson Simmons noted that High Stakes Poker was a “remarkable program” that resonated well with viewers. This is because it included several star poker players, immensely massive and engaging plots as well as a ton of memorable moments. In essence, it was a pretty well-thought-out and remarkable beautiful depiction of what happens in real-life poker games especially in cases where real money is involved.

“Bringing the existing episodes of High Stakes Poker to our platform and producing more in the future will enable us to recapture the nostalgia and magic of the show for our PokerGO subscribers in the present-day poker climate,” Simmons said.

After it debuted on January 16, 2006, High Stakes Poker quickly rose to become one of the most-watched poker television shows on the planet. It was very exciting for viewers to watch some of the biggest names in poker play in the action-packed show. A few of the notable poker stars who appeared on the show include Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, and Doyle Brunson. On occasion, the poker show also brought in celebrities.

Before it was taken off the air, High Stakes Poker ran for a total of seven seasons which is more proof of just how popular the poker show was.

What to Expect

As of now, not much detail has been divulged with regards to when players can start streaming the new episodes of High Stakes Poker. However, everyone involved with the return of the show is pretty excited about what is to come. For instance, Mori Eskandani who produced the show before it was taken off the air has pointed out that he is extremely elated about the idea of presenting the show to a new generation of viewers.

Eskandani has been working as an executive producer with PokerGo and he will play a huge role in the reboot. As such players can expect the High Stakes Poker reboot to be just as raw and natural as the first series was.
