As much as there has been great growth in the United Kingdom’s gambling market, it has been quite a while since any plans or proposals were submitted with regards to the establishment of a new gaming facility in the country. It is for this reason that any rumors of the same would be certainly not be taken lightly since such an occurrence not only presents further growth for the industry but also means that the gamblers in the country will have many more options to choose from.
That said, it is reported that one company has set its sights on Liverpool for a new casino project. Niboco, the company in question, is reportedly eyeing the empty former George Henry Lee building. The company is a renowned property developer and therefore any of its plans cannot be taken for granted. Already, the developer has submitted a planning application to the Liverpool Council for change of use of the property which is located on Williamson Square – the idea is to turn the building into a hotel and casino with other entertainment facilities like nightclubs also expected to be part of the ensemble of offerings the new project will be offering.
The former George Henry Lee’s building is considered to be a landmark in the Liverpool city center, a fact that attracts even more attention to the casino plans. However, it goes without saying that these plans might see the building regain its former glory after remaining partially unoccupied for the past year after Rapid Hardware, one of the tenants, vacated the premises after deciding that the store was no longer financially viable.
A decision regarding whether the project will be permitted or not is scheduled for Tuesday by the council’s planning committee – gamblers and stakeholders will not have to wait too long to get the final verdict on the proposed change of the use of the building.
More Details
According to the plans submitted by Niboco, the nine-storey former George Henry Lee’s building could be transformed into a hotel with a capacity of up to 157 bedrooms in addition to a nightclub, a casino as well as two basement floors. To aid in ensuring the success of these plans, the Doherty family that ran Rapid Hardware has partnered with Williamson Holding, an investment property company.
While the final verdict may not be easily discerned at this moment, one thing is for sure though – there will definitely be a hoard of gamblers looking to find a new gaming spot in the United Kingdom. For now, that is more than enough to push the new gaming establishment through its first year.
