However, it goes without saying that these plans might see the building regain its former glory after remaining partially unoccupied for the past year after Rapid Hardware, one of the tenants, vacated the premises after deciding that the store was no longer financially viable.
A decision regarding whether the project will be permitted or not is scheduled for Tuesday by the council’s planning committee – gamblers and stakeholders will not have to wait too long to get the final verdict on the proposed change of the use of the building.

According to the plans submitted by Niboco, the nine-storey former George Henry Lee’s building could be transformed into a hotel with a capacity of up to 157 bedrooms in addition to a nightclub, a casino as well as two basement floors. To aid in ensuring the success of these plans, the Doherty family that ran Rapid Hardware has partnered with Williamson Holding, an investment property company.
