GAN PLC on Friday announced that it will be making its operational debut in the state of Michigan in 2021. The award-winning developer and supplier of online gaming solutions will be providing its services through a partnership with Michigan’s Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians which currently runs a total of five casinos in the state. There is also a yet-to-be-named casino operator that is set to be part of the iGaming project – this will be announced in due course though.

What the Deal Entails

As per the terms of the partnership agreement, GAN will be providing its top-notch technology platform as well as other operational services to all of the five Kewadin Gaming Authority’s and-based gaming properties that the tribe owns. It will be doing the same for the unnamed casino operator mentioned earlier.

According to Allen Kerridge, who is the CEO of the Kewadin Gaming Authority, the tribe is very happy about their decision to ink a partnership with GAN. They are very excited about venturing into the online gambling space by partnering with a reputable solutions provider that boasts of market-leading technology as well as a ton of experience in both online and retail gaming spaces. Their customers in Michigan can, therefore, look forward to having internet gaming options on day one.

GAN has been pursuing global expansion for quite a while which makes its bid to become a part of the nascent online gaming market in Michigan quite timely. This is certainly a great opportunity for growth.

“Our technical expertise and ‘day one’ experience in multiple U.S. Internet gambling markets will enable the Sault Tribe to capture their share of the online opportunity and we thank them for their trust in forming this relationship with GAN and our major U.S. casino operator client whose identity will be confirmed in due course.”

JEFF BERMAN, CHIEF COMMERCIAL OFFICER OF GAN

There are, of course, plans for several other states where internet gambling is legal and regulated. Given the current global situation, the expansion plans might be derailed but it is great to know that they exist.

The Roadmap for Online Gaming in Michigan

In late 2019, Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan signed into law a set of bills that legalized retail sports betting, online sports betting as well as digital casino-style gaming. However, the online gambling industry is yet to kick off especially because of the lack of rules and regulations. Fortunately, the Michigan Gaming Control Board had already begun working on finalizing a set of rules and regulations which brought the industry’s anticipated launch to 2021.

Significant delays may be on the horizon but many gaming companies are still making the necessary preparations as the country continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic.
