According to <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"a report published by a local news outlet (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/news.abs-cbn.com\/news\/02\/19\/19\/immigration-arrests-276-foreigners-in-makati-raid\" target=\"_blank\">a report published by a local news outlet<\/a>, during a raid at Makati office, the bureau managed to arrest a total of 276 foreigners. The raid was organized following <strong>reports that there were foreigners in the country who have been operating without proper immigration documents and works permits.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the time of this writing,\nit still remains unclear whether the individuals who were arrested did indeed lack\nthe proper permits and documentation. It is therefore too early to speculate whether or not they have been working illegally\nin the Philippines since their identities\nwill still need to be verified. The country&#8217;s visas are usually represented in the\nform or a stamp in the passport of a visitor, an identification card (ID) as\nwell as ton of additional documentation \u2013 it is possible that due to the rather\nbulky nature of all that paperwork, the people who were arrested simply did not\ncarry them along to their places of work. However, if any of them is proven to\nhave been working in the country without proper documentation they are likely\nto be charged for deportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sources close to the matter believe that some of the people who were arrested worked for an online operation that had ties to Mabnet, an online gaming site that caters to markets in China and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bestonlinecasinosites.com\/news\/the-total-gross-gambling-yield-of-the-uk-gambling-industry-rose-by-4-2-thanks-to-igaming\/\">the United Kingdom<\/a>. As it turns out, the operation reportedly held a legitimate license form the Philippine authorities which further makes the whole issue quite confusing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even so, the raid comes\nas little of a surprise since the country&#8217;s authorities have been threating to\ntake action against gaming operators who have employed undocumented foreigners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"more-restrictions\">More Restrictions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to the Tuesday crackdown, the Philippines added yet another hurdle for online gambling operators targeting the country&#8217;s government to deal with. This came in the form of a new rule that now requires offshore gaming operation to <a href=\"https:\/\/calvinayre.com\/2019\/02\/18\/business\/philippines-adds-hurdles-internationally-licensed-operators\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"register with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) (opens in a new tab)\">register with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR)<\/a> before proceeding to secure gambling licenses. In fact, the bureau has gone as far as reaching out to the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.
